Al Salam Hospitals Achieves Triple ISO Certifications for Quality, Environmental Management, and Occupational Health & Safety
Al Salam Hospitals has been awarded three internationally recognized certifications from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO): ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. The achievement reflects the hospitals' ongoing commitment to implementing international best practices while fostering a culture of quality, sustainability, and institutional safety.
The achievement was announced during a closing ceremony held on 25 June at Al Salam Al Assima Hospital, attended by the leadership of both Al Salam Al Assima Hospital (SASH) and Al Salam Al Ahmadi Hospital (SAHH), as well as representatives from the departments and teams that contributed to the certification journey.
The certifications are the culmination of a comprehensive, hospital-wide initiative that launched in 2025, involving clinical, technical, administrative, and support teams across SASH and SAHH. The initiative aimed to strengthen operational systems and improve organizational performance through a unified framework for quality, sustainability, and occupational health and safety management.
The certification journey has enhanced numerous institutional practices, including the standardization of operational procedures, improvements in document control systems, strengthened risk identification and management processes, and more robust monitoring of key performance indicators. It also promoted greater cross-functional collaboration, enhanced internal audit practices, and reinforced compliance monitoring across the organization.
As part of the project, Al Salam Hospitals also implemented a range of sustainability and occupational health and safety initiatives, including improved medical waste segregation and management practices, resource conservation programs, more comprehensive occupational risk assessments and emergency preparedness measures, strengthened infection prevention and control programs, enhanced compliance with personal protective equipment requirements, promotion of incident and near-miss reporting, and increased employee awareness of workplace safety and environmental responsibility.
“This achievement marks an important milestone in Al Salam Hospitals' journey toward strengthening a culture of institutional excellence and continuously raising performance standards,” said Dr. Ayman Salem Al Mutawa, Chief Executive Officer of Al Salam Hospitals. He added: “Earning these internationally recognized certifications reflects not only our commitment to implementing global best practices, but also our dedication to enhancing quality, safety, and operational efficiency in ways that positively impact the patient experience and the quality of care we provide. It also reinforces our commitment to continuous improvement while building on a healthcare legacy spanning more than 60 years, further strengthening the trust that patients and the wider community place in Al Salam Hospitals and our services.”
“These certifications are the result of a collective effort involving teams from across Al Salam Hospitals, including our clinical, technical, administrative, and support functions,” added Dr. Raghad AbdulMutaleb Al Kazemi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer at Al Salam Al Assima Hospital. “They reflect our ongoing commitment to continuously improving our systems and strengthening standards of quality, patient safety, and occupational health, ensuring that we deliver healthcare services aligned with international best practices while meeting the expectations of our patients and the communities we serve.”
The certifications mark another milestone in Al Salam Hospitals' ongoing journey of institutional excellence and international recognition. Most recently, the hospitals were awarded Diamond-Level Accreditation from Accreditation Canada for the third consecutive time, one of the world’s leading healthcare accreditation bodies for assessing quality of care and patient safety.
