Hyperemesis Gravidarum

Objectives:    
• Define hyperemesis gravidarum and differentiate it from normal nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP).
• Identify the risk factors, epidemiology, and potential complications associated with hyperemesis gravidarum.
• Describe the pathophysiology and proposed mechanisms contributing to hyperemesis gravidarum.
• Recognize the clinical presentation and diagnostic criteria for hyperemesis gravidarum.
• Review current guidelines for the use of antiemetics and other therapies in pregnancy.
• Assess when hospitalization is warranted and manage complications such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and nutritional deficiencies.
